Sitting where there was good light from the glows, Eliyna worked on a scarf for her eldest daughter, Jayna. She'd already finished knitting one up for J'ysor, as well as a new cap; he'd grumbled that the ones she'd made him the last turn (and the turn before that) were still perfectly good, but frankly Eliyna tended to show her love by making gifts for her family. Which meant that every winter, as soon as it was nicely cold, Eliyna knitted up a new scarf and hat for each of her family members. Sometimes gloves, too, although those were more finicky, and really she preferred lapine fur gloves to knit ones anyway. Everyone in the family had a nice pair of those already.
The good wool she'd picked out and dyed a rich rusty color for her daughter was on Eliyna's lap as her needles moved rapidly, creating a simple cable pattern about a handspan wide. She was quite pleased with her progress so far, and intended to jump to a matching hat from the same lot of yarn once she finished this project.
A shadow moved across Eliyna's light, and she looked up, feeling self-conscious and smiled a little anxiously as her needles stilled. She wasn't always good around new people. "Hello?"
